“You must understand that because of you, I can go to sleep at night in peace knowing my brother is well cared for.”
West Bay recognizes and appreciates opportunities for our staff and individuals to contribute and give back to our communities. We do this in a variety of ways.
Meals on Wheels
For more than 20 years, West Bay has worked with Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island, helping to give back to the elderly in need. Members from the community help provide meals to senior citizens throughout Rhode Island.
Helping Hands
West Bay employees assisted individuals with developmental disabilities to form a volunteer group named “Helping Hands.” The group’s goal was to give back to their surrounding community. In the past 3 years, Helping Hands has collected and donated supplies to many causes including: Save the Children, UNICEF, Nickerson House, Victims of the earthquakes in Haiti and Japan, the Gulf Oil Spill, Cell Phones for Soldiers, and We Care for Animals. Additionally, the group held a #5 plastics recycling drive, a Cracker Drive for 1st Baptist Church of Pawtucket Food pantry, and contributed to The Linus Project.
North Kingstown Little League
For the past 6 years individuals and staff have been operating the North Kingstown Little League concession stand at Signal Rock Field in North Kingstown. Little league teams, families and fans can purchase hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, and an assortment of candy and drinks. The stand runs from the end of April through the end of June, working a rotating schedule 5 nights a week and weekends with an average of 25 individuals, plus staff.
The relationship between the community and West Bay has been valuable to all involved. Working at the concession stand has allowed individuals, supported by West Bay, to have a valued role in the community. This experience has also exposed the youth and families of the Little League to the talents and personalities of the individuals.
