“You must understand that because of you, I can go to sleep at night in peace knowing my brother is well cared for.”
Our Human Rights Committee has been established since West Bay incorporated in 1981. The Committee is comprised of persons with developmental disabilities, family members, volunteers, advocates and persons who have experience or training in behavioral treatment. The committee develops strategies for promoting human rights. They review, approve, and monitor outcomes of interventions within individual plans that might impair the participants’ liberty; and review other plans and procedures that involve risks to the participants’ protection and rights.
Members of the Human Rights Committee receive training in the areas of human rights and their role as committee members and the role and responsibilities of the Office of Quality Improvement and other state agencies with respect to monitoring or investigating human rights violations.
