Rhode Island disability groups and their families held a vigil at the state house Tuesday.

The rally drew more than 3,500 people who, with glow sticks in hand, surrounded the entrance to the State House in a Circle of Hope. The vigil was held to oppose reductions in government funding for services for residents with disabilities.

Lawmakers have proposed $24 million in funding cuts to the special services.

Elaine Clemm's daughter relies on disability funding.

"She has a feeding tube. She doesn't walk, she doesn't talk, she doesn't see. If she didn't have the people that she has, I don't know what would happen."

"We're concerned that the legislature did not understand how these cuts would be impacted," another supporter told Eyewitness News.

The 2011 budget proposed cuts to various human service programs, with the latest round of cuts taking place October 1.
