Our Direct Support Staff assists individuals with differing abilities to take active roles in their home and community.
Staff are trained in Healthcare, Nutrition, Physical Therapy, Medication Administration, Behavioral Support and Human Rights -- to help individuals achieve their highest level of independence.
West Bay offers a comprehensive training program including:
Basic Communication
Discusses verbal and non-verbal communication, factors involved in communication and alternative means of communication
Physical Therapy and Safety
An overview of the importance of physical therapy in a residential setting, back and body mechanics, lifting techniques and safety in the environment
Human Rights
Focuses on knowing and protecting the rights of individuals with developmental disabilities. This training includes an explanation of those rights, quality assurance, the Human Rights committee and how to report any incident of abuse, neglect, mistreatment and financial exploitation.
Positive Behavioral Support
An introduction to the philosophy and practice of positive behavioral support. Emphasis is placed on different techniques of identifying individual's needs and developing individualized behavior support plans.
Healthcare and Nutrition
An introduction to general wellness, illness basic first aid, hygiene, infection control, emergency care, doctor and hospital visits
