Be Ready - Make a Plan

Emergency Preparedness

The information featured on this page is to assist West Bay members, their families, and our staff in the event of an emergency:

Implementing the Emergency Evacuation Plan

In case of an emergency, “The Emergency Evacuation Plan” (red-colored plan) will assist staff in carrying out plans for each individual’s safety. The goal is to ensure the safest delivery of services to the individuals of West Bay.

  1. Call West Bay’s Emergency Information Line:
    401-738-9300 ext. 349.
  2. Watch WPRI Channel 12 or listen to WSNE 93.3 FM.
  3. Go to West Bay’s website homepage at: www.westbayri.org.
  4. Office & professional staff should check their email as soon as possible.
  5. In the absence of phone communications, West Bay will use the “Communication Relay System.”

Stage 1- Return or Remain In Home

Coordinate individuals coming home from separate day program sites. In this stage all residents return to or remain in their homes. Wait for further instructions- only professional /office personnel are going to the assigned houses or hubs. All professional/office staff will be given directions. Call parents/guardians to coordinate transportation, in case stage 2 evacuation becomes necessary. Read and prepare for Stage 2.

Stage 2 - Evacuation to Hubs

This stage reduces the occupied locations to only the hubs. All staff and residents should go to designated hubs. See individual’s evacuation plan located in the Black Emergency Book for details. Use the steno notebook as the house log, making sure to document any necessary information. Leave a note on the door indicating where the individuals have gone.

In extreme circumstances, there may be additional directions on the West Bay website at www.westbayri.org or by dialing 401-738-9300 Ext. 349. Or, if directed by city personnel - skip Stage 2 and proceed to Stage 3. Read and prepare for Stage 3.

Stage 3 - Evacuation to Shelters

This stage will only be implemented if absolutely necessary and determined by West Bay administration or city/ town personnel. Place yellow identification bracelets on the individual’s wrist before leaving the home. Leave a note stating the evacuation location on the front door.
Use the steno notebook as the house log, making sure to document any necessary information.
